Thanks everyone for the awesome support. It turns out that when I dropped my puppy of for surgery, they examined him while unconscious, the only difference is they examine BOTH legs, only to find the same amount of laxity in both! Then they reviewed the second set of X-rays only to FINALLY notice a complete lack of synovial fluid (other than the normal amount). The result was ruled a strained muscle - no surgery required. I learned some valuable scary lessons here, but perhaps the most important was what a great group of people are members of this board, thank you all again so much for your insight and support.
I know EXACTLY what a relief that news can be - as we went through it not once but TWICE with Oscar - same EXACT course of events... Through both events I kept telling myself how lucky we were - and now I'm trilled to see that we're not the only ones with such a good outcome. SO glad to hear this news - SO GLAD!!
For future reference, I know it's tough, but try not to jump to conclusions when it comes to big diagnoses - always get a second or third opinion, and ALWAYS make one of those opinions that of a specialist trained to see ALL the signs. General practices have their place, but they have their limitations as well.
