Bruiser has been on raw for a while.
Well I have been noticing.
That his wieght seems to be dropping no runs or anything like that. He did hit a growth spurt. But we upped his food he is now eating 2/3 cups a day total. Phoenix gets a cup a day of food so he seem to be getting a lot.
He is on heartguard so worms are not a ishue. I am using pre made raw thats all I can do right now.
His little tummy seem to shrink in during the day after he eats.
No ribs or anything and he has a little pugde under neith his belly.
Mabye I pay to close attition
Thanks in advance
Stephanie and bruiser
Well he is 8 pounds acording to the formulia he should be getting half of what he is eating. But on that I would be seeing ribs.
He just made 5 months old.
I am using wieght times .02 divided by 2 cause he eats twice a day.
My real question was should he be getting more food. Then what the formulia says cause he is still a puppy.
Or do I need to take him to a vet is something wrong with him he is getting a lot of food. He is by no means skinny like ribs and all.
But he does not have a build like phoenix either. He is not the right wieght at all
He is also very active for a chi.
On Ed's feeding puppy page, he states that adults should get 2% to 3% of their body weight but puppies should get 5%-10% while they are growing. My large breed puppy grew until he was about 7 months then I reduced his food gradually (cause he was getting chunky).
So you should be doing weight x 0.05 divide by 2 to get his meal weight.
Also, small breeds need to eat a larger % of body weight as they seem to have higher calorie requirements. I would say 5% of his body weight is a minimum, you may have to increase up to 8%. Small breeds are also in danger of becoming hypoglycemic so make sure to feed him on a regular schedule.
