I bet some of you would trade the heat for our 54 degree cloudy day. I know I would trade with you for a day or two. Its depressing but keeps me working inside.
I started loving dogs when I was about 3 years old. Now 55 I started a local dog newsletter with the borough shelter. When I say "with" I mean I write it all and take all the photos as well as posting it to forums, emailing it to 800 contacts, and pay for the printing. We support ( and when I way "we" I mean "I") the printing with advertising and that is growing.
Alaska has a lot of dog owners. In our populaton of 80,000 people 65% of families in our borough have dogs not counting the hundreds of registered sled dog kennels that may have up to 200 dogs.
There was no single source of events and information for dog owners. Now into Alaska Dog News' 4th month I am overwhelmed with work. We have every dog sport happining here including Dockdogs and Flyball. A new training facility just opened with training rooms as large as 125 feet by 50 feet.
I hope some of the members of these boards will visit our site, see what is going on in Alaska, feel free to submit or comment.
We have a lot of dog "experts" here. Some of them are "old school" some are "behaviorists" but all feel they are the answer in their own minds. I feel since we are so isolated we need information and suggestions from outside of Alaska.
There is so much valuable information on this site I almost don't know where to begin.
You can see something about our family and the dogs here. Image Works Publishing Alaska Dog News.
Hi Linda, and welcome! I'll trade a few days of 54 degree weather with you. We're having weather in the 90's, with the humidity about the same.
Sounds like you are keeping busy. I can't get the link to work for 'Alaska Dog News' though...
