I am wondering if you guys know of sports where people and dogs exercise together? Maybe a relay where dogs have to use a pack bag to carry an object while owner and dog run/jog/fast walk for like three or six miles, swimming, rock climbing/ramp, and pulling cart? I really don't know. I have been in training for half marathon until I hurt my knee recently. I have been ordered to rest at home and see an orthopedic surgeon. I don't want to rest, but whatever I get better. I will be start looking for a new dog soon! I want the new dog to be my teammate and work together.
I really want to invest a new sport where people and dogs get to exercise and work together as a team. Nothing like agility, flyball, schutzhund, etc. I really like someone's idea about opening a gym for people and dogs, but only well trained and well socialized dogs are allowed to come.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who likes to exercise and work with dogs. I wouldn't mind to start a new club.

Here in Alaka a lot of people skijor. I can't seem to master cross country skiing so I have a harness hanging in my garage. You often see people running, biking and carting behind teams of 2- 10 dogs.
The other more passive sport is Freestyle - Dancing with your dog. Im older and see this as more of a possibilty. Our trails are way to rocky for those skinny tires on the skooters. We have a number of doggy dashes to benefit different causes running walking for 5K. A marathon is a great idea for our newly formed friends of the shelter to plan for next year or even a winter event. I've thought of a hunting biathalon.
Maybe we can come up with some kind of Biathalon, skiing to released birds, shoot them, the dog retrieves, and we head to the next set up. Its endless....

Can you tell us more about this? The handler and dog walk/run together, right? And are there different times or events for the size of the dogs, or is it the pledge kind of event, with people or companies pledging to support each team for doing the 5K?
What a great goal for humans and their dogs to get in shape for!

In my old hometown the local shelter used to call their annual dog/human 5k the "mutt strut". I'm pretty sure it was any age/size/breed dog paired with their owner, nothing super competitive, just a fun afternoon to be out with your dog.
Not sure if this is a sport, but thought it was a good idea...I'm going to be doing a "Ruff Rally" in September. It is a two mile course set up as a hike with various stopping points with agility/obedience obstacles. Whoever accumulates the most points, wins! Don't care about winning but thought it would be fun!

What do they win? A trophy (which would be very cool, I think!)? Do you have a entry fee that goes to a shelter or something like that?
