I'd just like to throw in a little ancient history. In the late 60's, the military fed a mixture of a kibble, canned dog food and an added vitimin. MSD, or Maximum Stress Diet was instituted around69 or 70. It's hard for me to remember specifics. MSD of course was the for-runner, of what we now refer to as Hill's Science Diet. It may have been rumor at the time, I really can't remember all the rumors. It seems that Mr. Hill, was once Colonel Hill or he had someother connection with the military. Personally, I wouldn't feed SD to a dead goat. Having said that though, it did withstand the heat/humidity of the jungle. Handler's didn't feed anything else, because often times the only thing they had available were C rats. That was before MRE's came along. I will say, it does keep the dogs alive, ready for duty (they've been eating it for nearly 40 years) it's easy to transport. Has the shelf life of a twinkie.

The military MSD had wormers and all kinds of stuff in it if I remember right. Came metal 5 gallon buckets and wasn't available in the form that the military used on the civilian market.
Notorious for causing stress sh!#$.
It did have wormers, including a heartworm preventative. We used to have to squirt ivermectin in each pan, daily. With MSD we didn't have to do that any longer. It was probably another year, maybe two that the monthly came out or at least was used by the military. True about the metal pails. In fact they were highly traded items in Viet Nam. Seemed like everybody carried a bucket to post with them. When you had a kennel of 300 dogs, the last place you wanted to be was in that kennel at 0 dark-thirty with a hangover.
