Hi there! I'm so glad to find a dog forum that holds the same beliefs about raising/training a dog that I do! My 9yr old GSD/husky Kota was small dog/cat/squirrel/bird aggressive when I first got him 3 yrs ago. Being my first dog, I coddled him, and praised him, and told him it was okay to bark and growl and snarl at other dogs. WOW was I wrong. A friend suggested positive-only training. Nope, didn't work, it just distracted him instead of correcting the problem. After reading about pack behavior, I decided he needed physical corrections (quick touch then verbal corrections) Three years later (today) he is an ANGEL! He is a certified therapy dog, and makes developmentally disabled children SO happy when he comes in for weekly sessions. He's helped me re-rehabilitate many foster dogs and is my little pride and joy.
That's probably enough, although I could go on forever
Welcome Jennifer! Nice work with Kota - he sure looks sweet in your pictures too. And big props for being a foster mum, it's a ton of work, but I'm sure the rewards far outweigh the effort.
Carol: Thanks,I LOVE the cube! And so does he It's the BEST way to feed him, he loves the pursuit of food.
Natalya: It's great fostering, but it's so hard to give the dogs up. Once I see how far they come in such a short time period, I want to adopt all of them...I await the day I can buy some land and own multiple dogs. Btw, I love the doggie xmass tree
