Max hates the pager so much more than the stim. I did want to train the recall on the pager button but it seems this won't be possible with him.
Though it is helpful when the unit is running out of battery, the pager works for a longer amount of time than the stim will. So when we are getting down to the wire on battery and the stim won't work we can still correct him if we're desperate and can't charge it right away.
I trained Erika to recall on the pager. I got a trick set up for it. I put my cell phone on Erika's collar, take her across the ball field in a downstay then have a group of kids, IE boy scouts, girls soft team etc try to recall her. the whole group will be calling her and she won't budge, then I ask somebody to call her on the her cell phone. They call and she comes running in. Then I show them it wasn't a "secret signal" I show them their number on "her" cell phone.
I was thinking of using the pager as the beginning of any collar correction, in effect to give the dog a chance to respond and beat the stim. Does that make sense? For instance, if I were giving the command "Ruger, come" I would page for his name, and if he hasn't stopped and looked at me, or picked up his head and made eye contact (starting to recall) then I'd start the correction. It would be his warning.
I haven't actually done this, it was just an idea I had. Sort of like escape training but with the pager instead of the stim. Get it done during the pager or else the stim will happen. Thoughts?

I have some reception problems with mine, that will intermittently need to be reset to start working again (big pain in the butt), as well i have a two dog system. So i use to the pager to figure out if they're collars are on and to make sure i know which dog the collar is set too. I'm sure its not ideal but thats what i use the pager button for.
Robert, I also have a 2-dog collar system. I ALWAYS put the SAME color collar on the SAME dog. The black goes on my female & the orange on my male. I NEVER make any exceptions to this. That way I ALWAYS know what collar is on who if I ever need to use it.
Just my way of doing it to keep it straight.
I use the pager button to get my dogs attention if they are ignoring me or when we are out on a walk and they are sniffing and I want them to keep walking.
I don't use it for a correction, more like a "stop what your doing and pay attention to me type of thing".
