My labrador puppy is five months old and I thought that his adult teeth had come in.Just a few minutes ago I noticed that one of his "sharp pointed" teeth on the bottom is gone, it was there earlier now it's completely gone. I looked in his gum and none of the tooth is in there. Is this normal? That tooth looked too big and mature for it to come out like that. Do dogs erupt more than one set of teeth or did he break his tooth?
I believe he should be done teething by about 6 months, so loosing a puppy tooth now would be normal.
Dogs only have puppy teeth and adult teeth.
Puppy canines are thin and very sharp, adult teeth are thicker and more blunt.
I doubt that he broke his tooth off.
You were correct, his adult tooth erupted a few days later. Actually he's lost a couple teeth and had the adult ones erupt. I'm very surprised at how fast his teeth have come in.
