I have also seen advertised something on the line of a pipe with a rod through it that is attached to the top of a fence or gate. When the dog gets up on it and tries to climb over, the pipe rolls and they fall back off the fence. I'll see what I can make the easiest.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Ohhhh, that stuff is great and I didn't even think about it. One of the guys that runs "cat" dogs here uses it and it is great stuff. His hounds are NEVER at my house anymore.....
Fortunately, in my favor, we are in a remote area, no close neighbors and relatively no traffic on our road. That is one reason I am able to do what I do. If I lived in town, I would be subject to a 3 dog limit, etc. The worst thing I have to deal with is small wildlife IE.: skunks, coons, rabbits, snakes, etc. who make the mistake of coming within a mile of my house. We work our Border Collies and all the little critters are fair game! I vaccinate them for everything in the world, including tularemia!
Even so, I want Bear in the yard and not thinking he can climb out at will. He most likely will not always live in the country. Besides being a training issue, this is also a safety issue for the rest of his life.
One of the most fascinating and wonderful things about Bear is how gentle he is with the Dutch pup and the Pomeranians. He will lay down and roll over and let them "get" him, then he gets up and slobbers all over them! After playing, the little ones look like they have had a bath. I let the little ones in the living room with him only one at a time as I don't want to overwhelm him with 7 little fur balls all at once. Of course, they are separated when I am not there to supervise.
Thank you for your concern. It is also one of mine. At this point in time, I am not able to kennel or tether Bear because of his issues. We are problem solving, one problem at a time. He will be a normal, well adjusted boy when he is ready for his forever home. I need to get out my camera so I can post a picture. He is a gorgeous bi-color!

Charlotte,
Sorry I couldn't come up with surprise this is your ray of hope idea for a quick fix. Hmmmmmmm, not sure there are any, now that I think on it.
Keep up the good work. And give some thought to that fence, not just the gate.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.
Randy
Charlotte,
I posted just after you........This is a foster dog!!! I'm sorry........You do realize he will have to go though the same thing all over again when he's rehomed don't you? Only the next time will probably be twice as bad! If not worse.
Rehome as soon as possible.

The dogs that I receive into my rescue are not here just waiting to move on to the next place. They are all treated as my own. My goal for Bear is for him to be a happy, well adjusted and confident dog. I work with all my rescue dogs on socialization, training, and learning to be good family members. They do not move on until I feel they are ready.
