I've been told by some people that my new pup cannot socialise at all with my other dogs as she'll bond with them and be less focussed on me. She's 6 months old now was a kennel dob but would ideally like to get her to be a perfect house dog as my parents cant stand coming home in the afternoon and hear her barking and whining in her run. They're not coping at all and are seriously wanting to rehome her because its just a nightmare for them. We have to keep her separated from the other dogs and make sure not to make a noise otherwise she might wake up and start barking etc.
I'm not aiming to win nationals with her but would like to title her and yet have the happy medium at home too.
My SchH dog in the making (see below), is a house dog.
She is around my 4 year old son, and has earned the right to roam the upstairs hallway and living room, during the day, while we are home. When we are gone, she is crated. When we are eating, she is crated. When we are busy, she is crated.
She sleeps on the floor in our room at night.
That said, I don't let her play with other dogs.
Crate the dog indoors, and see how that goes.
Tether the dog when inside. I can be *around* other dogs, it just doesn't need to be playing with them, ESPECIALLY at this age, while you are laying the groundwork and establishing your bond.
