Here's a link to a trainer in my area I'm considering. I haven't contacted them yet, just reviewed their website. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this place, based soley on the website. It appears they don't do group ob classes, they do an initial evaluation of your dog before beginning. They have experience competing in different sports, but it doesn't appear he (the owner) has any titles. In fact, in reading his training philosophy, he seems to prefer a more "well-rounded" route, via cross training.
I like the article he has "I am the E collar," where he says most people come to rely too heavily on using a correction collar of any sort, but that it can be mis-used and cause great misunderstanding with the dog. He seems to have similar training philosophies as seen on this site.
I love all the things he says on his website, on the "about" page,
like this "Training is an art form, a craft that has lost its balance over the past 20 years. Why was the balance lost? Because we as humans self-importantly decided that dogs have to understand our human language instead of us learning to understand theirs. Trainers developed methodologies that were more focused on pleasing their human clients than on developing the balanced communication dogs require to fully understand what is expected of them."
I don't know the man, but he seems definitely worth getting an eval from!

My van, for example, has an air-brushed mural of migrating native americans on horseback...riders wrapped in buffalo hide....into a sunset...dogs dragging forked timber sleds in the background.
Like that kind of balance? That was at least 20 years ago. I also wish to return to that golden era of dog training.
The other side has a severe-looking wizard standing amongst rolling fog with lightening coming out of his fingers.
