Hello. I have been lurking here for sometime. I've had an increasing interest in Schutzhund and protection dogs for the past year and half or so. I have gotten myself quite an expensive collection of leerburg dvds since then and I have spent probably hundreds of hours reading on the website and forum. I am finding it all very helpful.
I put a deposit on a litter back in October and I have waited until now to get my puppy. She is a solid black German Shepherd. The litter was born June 11th and I just picked up my pup at the airport Thursday. I named her Bella. She took a 12 hour trip here from Alaska and seemed totally unfazed by it. She came out of the crate wagging her tail and licking my face. I try to introduce her to new things everyday and I have yet to see her show fear of anything. She gets into everything she can. She is my first working bloodline dog. All my other dogs have been rescues. I also have a very old German Shepherd that I rescued and German Shepherd/Husky mix that I was fostering a couple years back and I ended up keeping her. I'm really seeing the difference between working bloodlines and not. I have never met a dog with such confidence in my life.
All my dogs are scared of the vacuum, at least if it is on and near them. I had my pup at my parents house while my mom was cleaning and she ran right up to the vacuum while it was vacuuming and checked it out. I have a small grill in my backyard and I rattled it when she wasn't looking. She turned around and looked at it for about 2 seconds and then walked up, jumped up on the side of it and started chewing the handle on the top. I tried dropping a metal bowl behind her. She didn't even bother to look at it right away. When she saw it spinning around on the floor she hopped in and started sliding around the kitchen with her front feet in the bowl, biting the edge of it, running with her back legs. I love this dog.
This is a video that the breeder took of her at 7 weeks. I don't know what is with all the whining in the video. I don't know if it was her or another dog, but I have done rag work with her and she has never made a peep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcDQV5K85kA
Ok, I'm done bragging. I'm hoping you guys will help me out along the way so I don't screw her up. I'm still very new to this. I'm aiming for schutzhund. I'm sure the questions will pop up soon. Talk to you then.
Bonbini, that is Welcome in Papiamento (not to be found in Babelfish, sorry, ),
Adorable pup you have there. 12 hours in the plane..wauw..and to think I was worried about traveling with my adult GSD to FL , which is only a 3 hour trip from here..
Now if your puppy can come out with a wagging tail after such a trip maybe the short trip will not burden my dog
