Hi All
I have a 13 month old lab -
She weighs 85 pounds -
She is smart as anything !! Does well with all the basic commands.
But definetly still has puppy brains !!!
She still has all the energetic behaviors of a puppy.
When someone comes over to visit she goes bonkers !!
She can act so hyper !!
When we are doing our training exercises she can be very lazy on how long she will keep a "sit" 5 minutes tops and then she wants to go into a down position.
How long should I be able to expect her to keep a command position at this age?
Now she will keep a "down" for a long time - but usually ends up going to sleep.
Just wondering how long a dog is considered a pup ? When do they start to mature ??
How much should I expect out of her at this age?
I just don't want to be pushing her too hard - I want her to be eager to work not consider it drudgery - I'm sure that I'm looking at this through human eyes - Just want to do it right !!
Thanks Sharon
Many dogs are considered adult at 18 months, this does not mean that all of them will suddenly become less puppish (look I made a new word). I had a 10 year old that you swear was a pup by her goofy actions.

You already have taught her to sit, so do it when someone comes over. Make her sit until released. By then she should have calmed down a little.
