so i went away for 4 days for work and just got back tonight. of course i'm all excited to see the animals, when i got to the midget's crate - AUGH! FATSO!
a couple of days before i left at the vet's he was 5.6kg. b/c hope springs eternal that he'll grow more, and b/c i thought if he went through a growth spurt while i was gone, to make sure he'd get enough, just in case....i left feeding instructions to feed him more around what a 15kg/30lb puppy his age is supposed to get (while gone i have my brother feed orijen, since i figure he's doing enough looking after all the animals without complicated feeding to handle).
who knew he could get so porky so quickly??! he looks like a beachball with legs!
help! do i just go back to feeding him appropriate amounts? i'm assuming a diet is a no-no for a puppy....and that if he just starts getting fed appropriately eventually it'll even out?
we have FR on sunday, and paul is either going to give me hell for letting neb get fat, or, b/c he knows i won't let him stay that way, laugh his head off.
....while i was in halifax i got neb the cutest little backpack for our trips in the next month assuming i get doctor's clearance to go! i know he can't carry weight, really, as a 5 month old pup, but it's so tiny i figure he'll just carry the poop bags and get to have a pack like the big dogs
please help w/his weight now though! what should i do?
i've been hoping he'd gain a bit of weight....and i thought, if he had a growth spurt, he'd be covered, without my brother having to try to figure out how much to feed him. i don't know, i didn't think 4 days would make that much of a difference. and he's looked a bit 'wormy' as my vet said, though he doesn't have worms, so i thought a bit of extra weight wouldn't hurt him, but i just didn't expect it would be THIS much.
basically, completely stupid.
thanks....he'll get some extra play time and some extra walks to get this off. it's probably not as bad as i think, but it was a shock seeing him when i got home.

When True was little he got into the kibble and gorged, right in front of my BF's less-than-watchful eyes. I came home from work and found an enormous sausage on 4 legs...He was HUGE! Scared me so bad I called the E-Vet and asked if a puppy could have bloat...LOL
Neb will shed the extra weight quickly and be back in fighting form before you know it. Pups do have growth spurts and they do grow like weeds...but usually not within a four day period.
i honestly didn't think it was possible for him to gain that much so quickly, especially like that, and being a puppy! totally dumb of me :stupid:
sarah, phew!
his face filled out a bit - he has a little tiny minature husky face on this little dog....
his stomach seems a bit....active....(gee, i wonder why - sometimes i'm so stupid) so i'm going to try to let it settle tonight/tomorrow morning.
i also realized i probably made things worse, weight-wise - b/c i live just a few blocks east of the evacuation zone near that huge explosion in toronto, and b/c i was hearing about asbestos issues - people in parts of the evacuation still aren't clear what's happening/what the risk is in respect of that - i got worried about having the dogs outside/exposure so i asked my brother to make sure the dogs were outside as little as possible, so he wasn't exactly getting optimal puppy exercise either. carol helped me since i was having research issues and we should be fine w/the dogs being out, but for a couple of days i asked him to keep them in.
