But Daddy it tastes soooo good and it is so fun to chew on. I have two suggestions, first get some Granny Smiths Bittered Apples (they sell it in pet stores, it is a taste deterent, nasty and horrible tasting-careful not to get it on you because it will stay on you for a while so USE PLASTIC GLOVES WHEN PUTTING IT ON.) put it on the lease, then when he does go for it-tell him to leave it. Hopefully this should help.
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. -Josh Billings
Keep your pup distracted away from this behavior by keeping him focused on you. Food can accomplish this. When you are walking your pup on a leash keep him looking up at you. If he is looking at you wondering when he will be rewarded, he is not chewing his leash.
Bitter apple may be one way but it is not the way. Bitter apple will not train your dog. Your dog is chewing on the leash because it is more interesting than you are.You must first develop a relationship of some type with your pup.A relationship built around attention, and rewards for it. The leash is not your main concern. Get your pup excited about you and the leash will take care of its self.I agree with Chuck on this, for once.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!
