Right now we have State Farm, and just for the heck of it, I'm going to look around and comparison shop. We're sort of re-doing our budget, etc, and have been changing some things around. We got our insurance w/State Farm about 7 years ago, and we've had no problems. But it doesn't hurt to shop around.
Who do you guys suggest I check out first? (I'm lazy, and want you to narrow it down for me. LOL!) J/k. (sort of).
They've consistently been the number one rated insurance company by Consumer Reports.
I've been very happy being their customer for the past 20ish years.
I have had farmers for about 12 years and have been pretty satisfied. They have now changed their auto insurance policy (if you have collision and comprehensive) so that if your dog is injured in an accident, they will reimburse up to 600.00 in expenses. Yeah, I know that is a drop in the bucket but at least its a drop :-)
I switched to Amica. They have great rates and are no. 2 on the JB Powers customer satisfaction list (the no. 1 company is only available to people in New Jersey??)
I shopped around quite a bit when I got a new 4Runner in 2006 and like Sarah, I found that State Farm gave me the lowest rate for very good coverage. I was previously with Farmers, with a 1994 Taurus and State Farm was only about $100 more than Farmers, for much better coverage (lower deductible, etc) for a brand new vehicle versus a then 12 yr old Taurus. To top that off, Farmers kept increasing my premiums every year even though I had never had any claims against my policy. But with State Farm, in the 2 years I've been insured with them, I've already received a $92 dividend check. So I vote for State Farm.
Kori, if your homeowners insurance provides auto, call them also. Often you will get a break on rates if you carry different types of policies w/ the same company.
(When I shopped around for car insurance, I ended up w/ Geico; it was the best in my area at the time...)
