I am very sad to say that all three tested for parvo and after watching two go in the span of an hour I opted to put the 3rd down rather than have him suffer the treatment, which as my vet described it, seemed long, frightening, uncomfortable and (esp. given the aggressiveness of this particular strain and the fragility of the puppy) unlikely to work.
I am surprised at how much it hurts to see them go, having only had them for a few days. The were the smallest little dogs I have ever been around. Certainly they deserved better. In retrospect, I really failed them in some profound ways. Being unsure of their age, breed and background I held onto the "maybe this is normal for puppies" thought for a day too long and it may have been the difference.
I take some small consolation in the fact that all 3 died surrounded by people that cared for them (myself and my girlfriend, who is equally despondent) as opposed to being gassed in the shelter. Thank you for all the responses and forgive my delay in updating the board. I have been unable to get through the update until now.
Brock,
I am so sorry to hear about this - please don't think that you failed them - you did the best that you could & remember that they were surrounded by love from you and your girlfriend for the few days that you had them.

I'm sorry Brock. You did the best you could. Those pups had a rough start in life, so chances are their immune systems would not have been up to the challenge any way. Parvo can be devestating.
You gave them love and comfort in their short lives. That's a lot.

You did right. And you are right to take consolation from their care and attention when they needed it.
