Dan Lampe Webboard User Reg: 02-04-2003 Posts: 30 Loc: Offline	I have been working with the string and ball with my pup, and have started with recall for reward only. If I want the dog to retrieve frisbees when older should I be doing something now? Frisbee on a string? or by working ball on string the prey stimulation will carry over to frisbees etc.

Cindy Easton Rhodes Moderator Reg: 07-14-2001 Posts: 2069 Loc: Wisconsin Offline	What breed of dog do you have Dan? Heavier breeds like GSD's and Rotts can easily injure themselves playing frisbee. I know of several GSDs that ended up with joint injuries or problems due to having a frisbee thrown for them and the repeated leaping and impact caused hip and elbow problems. ESPECIALLY in growing puppies playing frisbee is something I would avoid. The lighter breeds like Malinois, Border Collies and Australian Shepherds seem to be built more for this type of activity. But if you are going to use it later, when the dog is full grown and fit...I would put it on a string and do drive work just like with a ball. I would get one of the soft frisbees made especially for dogs and play tug with it...my old Doberman Elka loved the frisbee. I used it for a send out target and it really worked great!
