I have an almost 6 month GSD mix. As of right now, her ears stay down almost all of the time. However, when she is playing/ excited, her ears often come into the upright position.
Here are two pictures.
She has gigantic ears. I'm debating whether or not to tape her ears. I'd love some feedback. I know that there's no guarantee, especially with her age, but she just stopped teething.
She's a mix, her ears may not ever stand the way a purebred GSD would.
You said on another threat you believed her to be part Lab? I would expect her ears to have a certain floppiness to them.
Furthermore, it's not uncommon, especially in female dogs, for them to have their ears down a lot. It's the dog acknowledging your dominance. My GSD Danke, will lower her ears when she walks by or looks at me, and the raise them up again. When I first got her, she kept her ears down all the time, until she felt comfortable with her pack position.
She just wanted to make sure everyone understood she was being submissive.
I wouldn't tape. She's not a purebred GSD, there's no reason to, and you might be wasting your time.
If they're up even part of the time, they'll probably retain that ability beyond teething.
