I am a JRT fan as well, I absolutely love the breed and will never NOT have one. They are the quintessential clowns of the dog world. I have 4 Germans Shepherds and a Cairn Terrier as well as 4 cats and 8 horses on my property, the JRT is in heaven hunting and chasing the rodents/lizards and essentially anything that moves, I even have him trained to come running when he hears me scream, he knows it's some varmint or insect and nothing makes him happier than killing them for me. I take him everywhere with me, he has a ton of energy, he would literally play retrieve the Cuz ball till he died of exhaustion. He is a snuggler and absolutely loves people, he makes me laugh and really loves to be a clown, I could write a book on his explots and odd habits, last night I let him in from the yard and he ran to his bed and was playing with his squeaky ( so I thought) it wasn't till I got up and walked by him that I realized it was a live baby rat that was squealing while he tossed it around on his back!!!!! He has a habit of putting his Cuz balls in the bathtub and rolling around with them, visitors are treated to a rare sight if they use my bathroom as he insists on coming with them to play with his toys! I could go on and on, but suffice it to say I think they are the best, mine gets along well with all the other animals even though he is a TRUE working terrier, I literally had to pick him up and bring him in last night as he spent over 90 minutes in the woodpile looking for another rat toy!!! I can't recommend puppy kindergarten enough, the key with them is getting them out there and exsposing them to people and other dogs.
I even have him trained to come running when he hears me scream, he knows it's some varmint or insect and nothing makes him happier than killing them for me.
Thats how I work on my JRT's recall.
He knows when I call, I could be putting him on the trail of a squirrel or rabbit. It taught me how powerful random rewards are in later training.
I hate to admit, but bugs, especially roaches, REALLY creep me out. Enter Turbo and those random rewards again.

I'm with you! Bugs make me scream, not mice, rats and snakes, this is the second JRT that has killed bugs for me and it is so easy to train them as they LOVE to kill, it's kind of funny in a way, he literally comes running like a whirlwind at my scream and starts immediately looking for the culprit, when my first JRT died I realized how much I had relied on him to " save" me from my phobia, everyone told me you have a pack of Shepherds you don't need another dog again, but they didn't understand I NEEDED a JRT, both emotionally and for the all important bug control, it's the best deal I've ever made with a dog! His reward is not only the thrill of the kill, but a hug and pat on the head as well! This morning as I went to the laundry room a cricket which to me is the same as a roach jumped out at me, I screamed and here came Riley running in and leaping in the air to catch and kill the hideous creature, I just smiled at my luck to have such a little hero on staff!!!!
