I was lucky enough to recently get a 10 week old GSD. Ares is from a good reputable breeder. She gives all people she sells puppies too your puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months and heavily suggests Establishing Pack Structure with the Family Pet DVD. He is a high drive puppy that is being trained for SAR.
Ares recently developed a bad habit when he is going on walks. When he sees another dog close to us, 10 feet or closer", he starts to bark and be aggressive for some reason. I never take him out without a leash and we never go to any dog parks. I have watched the 2 video's Being the pack leader and Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months. I do not have the opportunity to step in and shoo the dog away before my puppy starts to bark and be aggressive.
I made him sit and made sure I was between him and the other dog. He has never had any dog come up and be aggressive to him in my care so I am not sure where this came from. This will be a working dog so I need him to be aloof around other dogs. I have How to Raise a Working Puppy on order and should be here soon. Any idea's on what has happened?
IMO I think he's just being a obnoxious puppy. How often is he around other dogs besides on walks? Next time this happens, try to ignore the other dog coming and keep walking, but walk in a curved path away from the other dog. It might help. Also socialize, socialize, socialize. Even if he's going to be a working puppy, he needs to have proper socialization at this early age, because the older he gets the less often you want him interacting with other animals and people. I have the DVD on How to Raise a Working Puppy and it is waaay helpful. If the dvd should be there soon, maybe wait to try anything until you've gotten it. Good luck, and I hope I was a little helpful.
Ok thanks for the advice. We have another dog at home but they have limited interaction right now because of the GSD age. He has seemed ok in the past with other dogs this just developed out of the blue. I will be looking foreword to watching the video and working on it.
