Jennifer: Bindi was weighted today, she was 18 lbs and is now 21 there isn't much gain, but I noticed she was not as trim as she was before. I am sure this will right itself when the weather cools off (like it did today) and we can play more and be outside more. I have cut her food back a bit.
She is not wide at the hips. SHe is a very muscular dog, but not wide at hips...unlike her owner who hasn't exercised much with all the heat. Today was much cooler 90 so I am hoping to get back at walking more with my dogs.
Thanks for the chart from the vet, I would say she is a five.
Thanks for the info it is a great help.
Oh Jennifer when I first got Bindi her coat was scraggly. Now I noticed today when I gave her a bath, her coat is much fuller now. She is a shaggy kind of terrior. So i think the fullness of her coat (due to the great raw diet!!!) has made her look a little heavier too.
Thanks again
sharon, no problem i guess at that size (around what neb is) 3lbs is quite noticeable. i'm sure she'll be back in perfect shape in no time. neb is pretty wide at the front, but has narrow hips - i think he's part JRT, is that what Bindi is?
awww, and that's so great about her coat and raw! when i got luc and he was kibble fed to the transformation of his coat (and eyes and just his general appearance) when he was raw-fed shocked me - someone here asked about a before and after and when i looked at the pictures, it was amazing the change.
so when do people consider a dog to be pudgy or overweight? we all seem to be fans of ribs....i actually kind of like that chart, even if it seems to be from purina somehow :shudder:
i got an email from hill's today (not really sure why....back before i smarted up, the cats got hills prescription diet r/d or g/d (mitch has CRF, never felt he was bad enough for k/d, plus r/d was good for his constipation....anyways, i must've ended up on an email list or something).
it made me think of this thread. apparently, luc appears to be underweight :smirks:
(i always think of the saying triathletes have....if people start asking if you're sick, you know you're within 10lbs of race weight. luc has been looking good on the last 2 runs (paw is doing fine), so i'm happy.)
According to that link, Humphrey was perfect size when I got him and now he's underweight. Oh noes! That lab in the example looked hefty to me... but the show labs are kind of hefty-looking to begin with.
