My pup had a rabies shot this morning at 9:30 (Est) and it is now 5;17.he is 15 weeks old, and he is not himself. All day he has been acting very sleepy, slow and alomst stiff. It's like he is druged. he is eating Ok, not great but ok and he has not thrown up, but he's just by far not him self. He is a very high energy pup and I can't seem to get him to even want to get up. Now don't get me wrong, he's not limp by any means but he just has not dissire to do anything. He will walk cause he likes to fallow me but he is walking very slow, head hanging and as soon as I stop he lays down. he has not wanted to play at. And when I fed him he just slowly wolked to it, normaly he is frantice when he thinks I'm feeding him. He has been sleeping all day, and not normal sleeping. Normaly when I move he jumps up and come running. To day I left the room (and my door is very noisy) and he did not even open his eyes.
I'm not sure if this is from the shot or not, nor what I should do. Will some one please help!
Ok, I just kalled my vet (the closed 3 min ago)and she said the thats normal and rabies shot makes puppies very sleepy, Is this true? She did not tell me that when she gave it to him. I called another vet and she said that if his face is not swelling than it's not a reaction and he must just be tired from going to the vet, she said it's stressful on little ones. I don't know lot's about dogs but thats a lod of crap to me. I knoe it can be stressful but he was fine, and trust me I know my dog and he's not just tired.
Do you have a holistic vet where you live? you might get more information from them.
My pup got his rabies shot (1st set) and distemper/parvo/lepto booster at 5 months. He was not dead tired when we got home. I do not remember anything different about how he acted.
My adult male (2.5 years) got all his boosters last week, he did not act tired or any different when we got home.
This doesn't sound normal to me. Did you see the other thread I linked in your other post? I believe there is something you can give him that you can buy at a health food store that would help.

My dog has never had a reaction to the rabies vaccine but my adult cat did have a reaction very similar to what you've described: He slept like the dead for a day and a half and didn't eat for 2 days. After that he was fine.
I will respectfully disagree with the vet who said facial swelling is *the* sign of a reaction and your pup must be tired from the visit. What a load of BS! The fact is, your pup had a reaction to the vaccine. Not all animals react like your pup or my cat. I think if more vets took the subtle reactions as seriously as they do the extreme ones, they would cut WAY down on vaccinating and/or demand the drug companies make safer vaccines. As it is, they might report a reaction if it results in an emergency (like respiratory distress)or death.
Elevated temperature and lethargy is somewhat normal after getting their immune system challenged by disease, infection, or vaccination. After all your pup just got injected with a substance his antibodies are going to fight. That leads to the pup being tired and maybe having a higher temp than normal. Something to keep an eye on but nothing to go rushing to the e-vet over.
If you can use it as a vaccine reaction and get him exempted from further vaccination it might even be to your advantage. Anybody ever done that?
My dog gets that way after vaccines. I recently (this month ) decided NO MORE. It scares me that he won't eat, play, enjoy walks, pets, etc. He just isn't himself for like 2-3 days after shots. He is normally a chow hound, who LOVES his squeaky toys and lives for walks. I was told by my old vet that 'most dogs react like this, it's normal'. After reading more about vaccinosis, raw and the other great info on this site. I'm switching to a holistic vet, giving no more vaccines, and feed more rmb + supplements.
