Hi, I'm newish around here and perhaps this is a dumb question, but I had heard that chopped up hot dogs were good for training, and I'm not sure whether I should cook them first at not? I'd really rather not because I'm a vegetarian and I hate the smell of meat, but of course I will cook them if it's necessary for my dog's health Thanks!
Thanks! So I don't need to heat them? I knew they were at least kind of cooked, but sometimes they say something like "heat thoroughly before eating." I'm a first-time dog owner, only had my boy for 6 months, and I'm kind of paranoid!
Pamela, just a word about hotdogs...
(I know you didn't ask, but... )
Unless you are buying organic hotdogs, you may want to limit the amount you feed your dog as training treats, for the same reason that you would limit the number you would feed yourself (if you were a meat-eater) or your child. Loads of nitrites and sodium...
You might add to your mix of training treats, swiss cheese bits (they don't get too soft like other types of cheese), and if you can stand to cook it, cubed up pieces of beef or chicken...

Thanks, Lynne, I do appreciate it! I will look for organic, and I've got some cheese for him, too. I can also get my fiance to cook some free range chicken at some point. Chip's a healthy lean-ish weight and fairly active, and I control his calorie intake well, but I needed to find something extra-special for when we're working on his hate for the crate and his separation anxiety.
