Could some of the fine members here shed some light on what is meant by "motivational training"? Layla, my new pup, is I think what you'd consider a "soft" puppy where the prong collar wouldn't be appropriate.

Many would refer to the marker training that you are doing as motivational. I would.
But actually, in terms of definition, you know that motivation can be painful as well as pleasurable, or some would say negative and positive, with negative being the dog complying to avoid or escape pain.
Many use the term motivational to mean training that uses reinforcements such as food and toys to motivate the dog rather than training that relies on compulsion and corrections.
However, there are often as many definitions, all along the spectrum, as there are people defining.
I figured that it was the more "positive" reinforcement with treats and toys, etc. I'll do some web research to find more info. If I find something of interest, I'll post it here.
