Ok, I give up. All I was trying to do was point out the fact that the dog may have been legit. Based on nothing but a suspicious look and the term "therapy dog", everyone was convinced that the lady was fake and abusing the ADA.
I have a friend that will have panic attacks out of nowhere. I will get phone calls where all I can hear is gasping and crying. It will take me up to half an hour to talk her down. When she isn't having an attack, she looks "normal" and functions "normally."
People with CERTAIN psychiatric disorders ARE disabled and qualify to have a service dog.
I take offense at your depression comment Lee... I do not see it as funny. I think you crossed a line.
Do people abuse the right to service dogs? Yes, just like people abuse handicapped parking permits. People are people, but we can't deny a truly disabled person his/her service dog because of a few jerks. Nor can we deny them because they "look suspicious."
Go ahead and make fun of me Lee.. I won't be commenting on this thread anymore.

I have to say that the tone surprised me too. That was why I asked if the dog had been a problem, maybe uncontained, uncontrolled..... because I didn't understand the instant judgment and annoyance.
I'm sure there is abuse of the service dog regs. There is abuse of all rules and regs in every sector. But I think that unless a dog caused problems in places where it was allowed, the abuses would not be my very first thought.

Thank you for the information you provided, you certainly shed new light on the subject for me.
I'm sure that having a friend who suffers from panic attacks would make you much more sympathetic to people who need these service dogs.
