I have a 14 week old female Long haired German Shepherd pup. I am already starting to train her in Therapy Work but since she has no behavorial problems (so far) and such a great temperament I would like to do other things with her, something along the lines of service work. I can't do anything that involves bite training (Therapy Work won't allow that) but she has great potential and I think she would thrive on this. She has German, American, and Canadian lines in her and is a little oversized according to the standards, right now at about 30 lbs and is expected to weigh 80-90 lbs when full grown. Any suggestions???

Good luck with your future Therapy Dog! My girls are both with TDI and it's great.
Not sure where you are going with your question though? Once you have passed the therapy dog test(s) and become involved there are many 'branches' and groups. http://www.4gsd.net/therapydogs.html has some info.
No matter what, you will need some level of obedience with TONS of distractions. So I would recommend finding some good obedience classes to join for the control and training that will help.

How about agility? Every dog I've done it with has LOVED it, and german shepherds are naturals at it. It's a lot of fun for any dog, and really helps alleviate stress. It's challenging but also a lot of fun for the handler as well.
What about competition obediance? Or herding? I just joined a herding club, they are a bit far away for me but maybe close for you? There are so many titles to be won in obediance where you dont' have to do bite work. Do a search for herding clubs. Join the German Shepherd Club in your area to learn more. My dog is in training for his TDI...I hope he makes it.
