Thanks a ton and yes my puppy will be doing Avalanche rescue also. Any and all information on seminars in 2009 are needed so I can budget for them.
Thanks,
Dale
Cool
I think ASARD is closest to you and has an avalanche dog certification. Call them re: seminars.
If you ski and have some avalanche rescue training (non dog related) under your belt you might consider visiting us in Canada sometime for one of our CARDA (Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association) courses.
This year's course in January may already be full (we have a limited # of spots open to Americans) This year the course is in Whistler, BC.
PM me if you would like further details on CARDA courses.
If you want to stay in the USA I have heard good things about the WBR. I would like to attend one of these courses myself if I can get away... Here is the info for their seminar, I beleive you will have to be a skier and have some avalanche rescue experience as well but not %100 sure: http://www.wasatchbackcountryrescue.org/page4.html
If you are interested in avlanche dog certifications but have no (non dog related) avalanche training, you might consider taking an avlalanche course without the dog to start. I am sure that there are many offered close to you. I saw some offered through SAR groups in AK in the earlier links I sent you.
I know you wanted courses you can take with your dog, but remember that courses needed to get called out to search with your dog may need to be on the list as well.
For example, in Canada you would need $2000.00 worth of non dog related avalanche courses to be elegable to take your avalanche dog certification! Check on what may be required in AK.
I believe that Kim Gilmore (Carol has given you her info) would have information on other American Avi dog certifications that may be available. And if you go down to visit her for a course you HAVE to come visit me at my ski hill too (we are only a couple of hours away!) We can do some training and drink some beer
