Hi Im back again with another question. Kane who is a 15 week old hard puppy, has been barking at other dogs/puppies when we take him to the park. Now I know as I have read that this is or could be his way of "acting like a tough guy."
My question is should I discourage it or ignore him? He doesnt act scared in the least... he will go to the end of the leash while barking, sometimes with his hair standing sometimes not. I pet him and tell him "quiet" but of course that dosnt work. I try and socialize him with other dogs, but I am leery of what dogs I should socialize him with. I introduced him to my sisters cockerspaniel/mix who is a very sweet girl. And to my surprise she wasnt too happy with him. She curled her lip to him and snaped at him (but didnt bite)So If anything I thought maybe he would have been scared and then I would have had a problem with him being fearfull of other dogs. This didnt stop him he continued to investigate her and then settled down.
Also since he hasnt had his Rabies vaccination yet, I dont want to socialize him with just any dog in the park. Also I bought him out of state and havent received his papers and shot record, therefore it might be a problem to enroll him in any classes. I found out how hard it is if you dont have proof of shots! I tried to book him an appointment to be groomed and they wouldnt take him without proof of shots.
Any ideas or suggestions? Should I ignore his barks? Correct him? Socialize him more and how? Thanks everyone in advance for any input.
When he gets close to any dogs he's barking at, does he continue to act aggressively, back away, or get wiggly and friendly once they're close?
I don't see why the breeder wouldn't give you his shot records...I would call and ask again. Papers, you have to wait on, but there's no reason why you can't know why shots the puppy's gotten. I'd call and at least ask what shots he's gotten already, and just tell your vet and he/she'll give him whatever shot he's due for.
When other dogs get closer he just stands there very alert or is sitting but isnt there. He barks but it doesnt sound like that deep mean bark. Most people once they see him and hear him bark at the end of his leash wont come too close so its kind of hard to tell. With my sisters dog he approached with caution but once he got close enough his tail was wagging and he wanted to play, even if she was an old grumpy lady. lol
He is caught up on his shots... I believe he has to be to fly. And the breeder said that all the papers would come together. I know he will need his Rabies next week when hes 4 months, but in the mean time I have proof of nothing. Which I guess one more week isnt anything since I will at least have proof of his Rabies shot.
