Thanks you guys, you've given me some good suggestions... I'm definitely going to check into each option. I had thought about the nylon because we train in all types of conditions. The mountain climbing rope will probably work too. Don't know if there's any place around here that sells cotton lunge lines for ponies?
Mine figured out he can give them one good chomp to cut right through them. I used to loop it over a hook in the backyard for a temporary tieout. One day, I went back there and he was gone. I almost crapped myself. Walked around front, and he was laying on the front step.
I chalked it up to a frayed line and fixed it. 10 mins later, he was on the front step again. So the third time, I watched him do it. One chomp and he was trotting around to the front of the house.
At least he sticks around when he gets away. I've forgotten to clip his tieout back on after walks, and two hours later he's just sitting on the front step.

I have used all of these types, and like the MCR rope the best. It has a good feel to it and is strong. Well, all are as they are made to hold a 1200 lb horse. But keep in mind that adding knots or wrapping it around something will create a weak point.
