In yet another weird family thing I had a discussion with my grandfather who is way into health foods more so than any person should be about the suppliments for the dogs. Specifically the omega 3s. He was telling me how he dropped fish oil from his own diet when he started using krill oil. I had never heard of krill oil but I figure you can oil any biological thing. The basic perks he mentioned were the lessened amount of "contaminants" and natural antioxidents that come from an animal lower in the food chain than fish. He also maintained that he thought I wouldn't need to use as much.
Anyone out there ever attempted crustacean juice/oils for dogs? Any opinions on the matter?

I researched it stringently and came up with a big "not for me," but it was six months ago or more.
Aside from the lack of testing (except for "research" by manufacturers/sellers), I found problems with filtration and handling (causing hazardous oxidation) as well as a large difference (like two or three times) between the amounts of DHA and EPA in fish oil versus krill oil (krill oil being the lesser). The "advantages" of krill oil were not in EPA and DHA (and I forget what the claims were). However, the whole reason for my use of fish oil is the EPA and DHA content.
I believe that krill oil was also contraindicated for anyone allergic to shellfish.
JMO, and not up-to-the-minute.
I'll be interested if anyone has any positive non-brand (Neptune) findings from any authoritative source; I couldn't find any.
