teagan broke her crate pail yesterday - cleanly severed the hook and the pail.
any ideas for reattaching it? it's metal on metal, stainless steel. what would work to glue or bond them back together?
in the meantime i just saw on the leerburg site a pic of the pail attached with a clasp and the handle, so i'll do that as a stop gap measure.
(teagan must be worried her rep as most destructive dog in the house is in jeopardy ever since i made the unfortunate decision to trust neb alone with an armchair (guess what? the digging and tearing dog likes to dig and tear into chair cushions!)....i think neb wins on sheer destructive potential, but teagan's got the most expensive destruction handily sewn up from the time she ate a close to $600 pair of glasses.)
I had a heart attack a week or so ago. Teagan trots by the couch with something pink and plastic in her mouth. I grab her and find my razor, SANS blade. I freaked - great, that'd be like $3000 to try to get it out before it slices her insides apart? I went down the hall, and, miracle of miracles, found the razor blade, which had been knocked off, on the floor. Now I keep my razor on the vanity (Teagan likes to hang out in the bathtub, where she grabbed it) and the bathroom door closed when she's out. For a smart dog she eats the dumbest things.
It is the leerburg pail - the one with the hook pictured here: http://leerburg.com/737.htm. I'm using a traffic lead to attach the bucket by the handle the way is pictured on the non-hook bucket right now. It's actually not bad.
Could I drill through the stainless steel with my regular drill/drill bits? Or would I need special drill bits?
Yes, a regular drill/drill bit will for sure do the job.
When you buy the rivets, the size bit needed will be marked on the package.
You'll have to have a rivet gun, too. If you don't forsee yourself doing a lot of riveting in the future you might ask around to borrow one. Someone at the hardware store might even let you borrow one. They aren't really expensive, so don't worry if you can't find one to borrow.
Who knows, you might start riveting all sorts of crap together if you have to buy one.
Rivets will work or you can take it to a heating and cooling shop that does fabrication and have them fix it with 3 spot welds. Maybe the local high school shop/ag class would also do it.
