I have a Mal that is 11 weeks old when can i expect her to go into heat and what do i need to do to help her through this?
Will probably have her mate 2nd time she goes in heat.
WHAT?! Second time she goes into heat? Um, I would recommend NOT doing that. She will be under a year old, possibly, during her second heat. I certainly hope you mean second YEAR.
You can expect her to go into heat anywhere after around 6-7mos to 8-10 IME. It varies. She will not need your help;-)
I'd also like to add that as she is only 11 weeks old, it's WAY to soon to tell if she's a good candidate for breeding. She needs to be at least 2 before you can get anything like an accurate picture re: health, structure, ability, etc. Even then, I don't thinks it's something to just 'do' because you can.

You are planning to mate a puppy (maybe a year old) during her second heat?

Hi Steve,
Dogs will go into their first heat as soon as 5-6 months and as late as 18 months usually.
The key is that unless you want to have puppies with just anyone's dog is to keep her away from other dogs for at least 3 weeks once you notice the bleeding.
As far as should you breed this dog. It is your choice, I won't tell you not to do it because you're going to do what you want to do anyways. I do think it is morally wrong to breed a dog before it has health clearances which means at least 24 months old. I do think it is morally wrong to breed a dog just because you have a dog who can be bred. I do believe that it is ok for us to critize people who do this because generally it is the dog who suffers not the person who breeds them.

My girls seem to have the first heat right around 8 months. There can be several month variance on either side.
Generally they are then on 6 month cyles although I do have one that is closer to 5 months.
She'll do all the work, you just get to clean up!
When I suspect a girl is getting close I will check for blood with a white damp cloth first thing in the am before they urinate. I will also place an old white towel in their crate.
Some girls are cleaner then others, I don't have any carpeting so it's not too bad.

There is a strong genetic component to when they go into heat also. Out of Annabelle's litter all 3 girls came into their first heat within a week or two of each other.
And they were pretty much the same age as their mother had been for her first heat. So if you know what age mom was, or are in touch with any of her littermates that will help guessestimate the timing.
