I would appreciate anyones input or thoughts on a behavior ( or possible health concern?) that my male, neutered 5 year old GSD is doing.
Max will at times, kind of hunch up and begin humping...nothing. He doesnt attempt to mount me, an object or my female 7 month old gsd. He just starts humping. He seems really uncomfortable and keeps looking at and sniffing his penis. He cant sit or lie down during these episodes. When I feel under there, his penis is hard and there is a large hard 'something' where his testicles used to be. These episodes usually dont last very long, maybe 5-10 minutes, then the swelling goes down. They also 'seem' to be prompted by some sort of excitement ie me coming home but can at times just seem to come out of no where.
I spoke with the vet and he says its nothing to worry about. Would still like more input from folks here.
Also he is a submissive soft male, no exhibition of dominance towrds anyone including the female pup.
Sounds like excitement, to me Male dogs can be like teenage boys, in a way, at times... unable to control physical responses to excitement. Unless there are strange secretions (not normal from that region of the body) or blood etc I wouldn't worry.

Ok, well thanks for the reply. I may be just a tad bit sensitive right now. My best friend lost her dog to bloat today...
