Glucosamine and Salmon Oil are both for joint health as I understand it. Is it redundant to give a dog both? Is anyone giving their dog both of these supplements?
Thanks.

Fish oil is given for the long-chain Omega 3s (like DHA and EPA) that are woefully inadequate in the modern diet (dog and human). Omega 6s stimulate inflammation, a necessary healing step. Omega 3s suppress inflammation run amok. The modern diet no longer has a good 6/3 ratio, for many reasons, but large among them is the grain-fed slaughter animals (including poultry, rich in 6s) that both dogs and humans eat. Even grass-fed slaughter animals quickly lose the 3s stored in the meat and fat if they go to a feed lot before slaughter.
Inflammation is a component of many (even most) diseases, such as OA, the coronary artery disease that humans get, diabetes, colitis, many allergies, asthma, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease ..... in many of these ailments, in fact, inflammation is a MAJOR component.
Glucosamine can stimulate joint cartilage to thrive and to rebuild.
So no, there is no reason at all to substitute one for the other.
JMO.
Yes, I will never neglect giving long-chain 3s from marine products (plus natural E to protect it as the body processes it) to my dogs, and I do give glucosamine and/or its relatives to seniors and any dog showing OA changes at any age.
