I had a Pekingese that they MADE me stay with because he was so bad, they wanted me to witness exactly what lengths they had to go to in order to get him to behave...that way, I couldn't sue them for something I alleged they did to my precious angel. LOL.
Why not ask? I have never thought to have my GSDs groomed...they're pretty wash and wear, but why wouldn't you be able to stay? Just ask them exactly when she can come in and tell them you want to stay. YOU'RE the customer.

It's not a groomer taboo to have a customer stay. Usually unless the dog is bad in their owner's line of sight or smell we don't mind and actually encourage it. After all the customer that takes their dog immediately saves us time and kennel space. Usually if a customer is particularly interested I'll actually show them how to do their own grooming if they're really interested. Personally I find it comical that I'm paid $10 to trim a perfectly cooperative dog's nails just because the owner doesn't know how. I'd be happy to for $10 show them how to trim the nails and trim the nails at the same time. Any poodle owner with the interest and a $200 investment can be taught in a day how to maintain their dog's coat for life. At between $50 and $120 every 8 weeks for a poodle this can be a serious wallet saver
The downside for us is how often we're interrupted in the course of doing a dog. This can wear on a customer's nerves as we work on their dog when we have to stop to answer the phone, give a quick quote to a walk in, answer questions, do nail clips, pick up and take out dogs, etc.
I did a rather nasty dirty neglected bichon mix today who took triple the normal amount of time which ment I had to give away dogs I had scheduled to other groomers on duty to get them home on time. Customers also don't always understand the idea of delays for doing careful work on a dog that needs extra help or is being difficult. We go to great lengths to avoid cutting, burning, or overstressing a dog
