Our GSD has been on a raw diet for 7 months; she is 18 months old and was fed crappy kibble (eukenuba) before we switched her. We feed once a day at 6:30 pm. The question I have is, she vomits maybe 2-3 times a week at the same time between 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm, ½ the time in my truck on the way home . The vomit is the yellow frothy type, no food present, and not that much maybe ½ -1 cup worth. She feels fine after she pukes, ready to play, eat, whatever. I have read that some dogs will throw up if they have an empty stomach, which it seems she does.
We feed her raw chicken quarters, raw hamburger (or ground venison), beef liver, sardines (only once a week), raw eggs 3-4 times a week, chicken livers, salmon oil (daily), vit E (daily), and starting today kelp and alfalfa (daily). She is 63lbs so we feed about 2 lbs a day, she is not over or under weight. She usually will get 2 chicken quarters (most skin and fat removed) a small hamburger (venison) ball and supplements. We mix it up so she is not getting the exact same thing everyday, for example switch the burger with beef liver, chicken liver etc…but she always gets the chicken, she loves chicken!
She did have anaplasmosis last summer and was on antibiotics. While she was on antibiotics we gave her yogurt to help her digestive system, but she will no longer eat the yogurt, just smacks her lips and does this weird thing with her tongue.
Has anyone run into this problem? I did read a post where they feed later in the day and that seemed to help, but I am already feeding pretty late (we go to bed at 9pm, up at 4:30am). I was thinking maybe switching her feeding schedule to the morning and see if that helps or maybe trying to feed twice a day, but that is kind of a pain, but if it helps we will do it.
