No, they have the white, however, what I get is reddish, (just like raw meat) and looks like long intestines. Actually it is kind of gross, however my dogs love it. I really can't imagine people eating it (ha). It is right next to the beef tongue in the meat counter.
I give tripe as a 'treat' in the food. It's usually eaten before turkey necks, liver, or any other 'good stuff'. It's good to mix up powdered supplements. I give it a few times a week when I can find it, and give 1/2 cup give or take. A few heaping spoonfulls is another way to put it . I like it because it has digestive enzymes and it usually fixes upset tummies. If you do decide to start to feeding it again, I hope you remember how wonderful it smells
I've been thinking about getting some tripe, but I've read on another list that when you repackage and freeze it, your whole freezer and everything in it smells like tripe (which sure sounds like it smells like s***).
Those of you who feed tripe...what's your experience with this?
This is easily obtainable from my butcher.
Cheers.
Good deal!

I've had 50 lbs. of "straight from the cow" tripe in my freezer and haven't noticed any smell.
After reading this thread and learning that what I bought is not the good stuff I again started my search and found where I could order green tripe, so again thanks to all that has responded to this thread, even though I wasn't the one that started it and wasn't even looking for suggestions, you have all helped again...That is what is so neat about this forum. (you get help even when you don't know you need it).
Michael, that is funny that you mentioned this site, because this is where I ordered from. The prices didn't seem bad and the shipping cost was ok. Many of the places I checked out, the shipping was really high.
It is good to hear that you have ordered from there, as sometimes it is a little scary making an order from someone that you don't really know anything about.
