There's bad spending practices everywhere. My local area has a large canal system to hold and move water. Since the canal banks can't be built on they are often turned into bike paths to allow people to commute without having to contend with the crazy drivers. There is a movement to connect some areas that aren't on the trail yet. All the cyclists and walkers want is a simple and safe path with maybe a few trash cans and regular maintenance of safety issues(large cracks). But no, the city has to dream up shade structures and art for the path. All at a cost of 2.25 million PER MILE! So the whole project is probably going to get canned. http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/123275
It seems like everybody is used to acting like a little kid with mommy's credit card. On everything from local levels to national. The economic situation is forcing a stop to that and more accountability for every dollar spent.
I'm not too fond of posting this stuff, but I cannot begin to imagine what these CEOs are thinking
Hard to wrap one's head around, I agree. However (and not to turn this into any kind of political discussion) this story is actually news because those execs were CHASTISED by the new administration for even THINKING about such frivolous spending. I'm somewhat certain that if this purchase were to have been made a month ago no one would have called them on it (at least not until after the plane was purchased).
A lot of current spending practices need to be overhauled right now, but at least this story is indication of a major change, and not just more reporting of the same old system abuses. I, for one, found it hopeful.
Good point Natalya, and I totally agree with you. Still makes me mad when I think what these people were going to do, but the fact that the new administration stepped in, is a good sign.
Well I like that Obama and his people said "Fix it." I remember reading about the Big 3's meetings in DC, asking for handouts. And they flew there on their private company jets, the round trip flight was 20k when they could have flown commercial for less than a grand. Pretty piss poor when you are asking for a hand out. So far Obama is doing what he said he was going to do and I'm happy about that.
