My question is whether I should be leaving water out 24/7 for a 14 week lab puppy? I give her water in the a.m. around 6:00 a.m. when I feed her (about 1/2 cup of water) then give her some water 2 more times throughout the day and then in the evening around 5:00 p.m. with dinner. She gets a little more around 8:00 p.m. She drinks all of it when I put it down. She wees frequently (every 45 minutes or so except at night when she can go upwards of 6 hours) and is doing fairly well with the housebreaking issue. My concern is whether I am depriving her of enough water because she drinks the entire amount when I put it down. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
I know I always have water out for my pups, free to drink. I do, however, limit the amount(times) they drink if I know they are about to be crated for a long time.
So I have water out all evening, but take it up around 8 ish. And I have water out in the morning, but keep an eye on the puppies tanking up on it. NO WATER ever in the crates.
Here's some sites about crate training that probably give other suggestions and options. But the fact your pup always drinks ALL the water makes me think you may need to leave it down more for at least part of the day.
