No no Steve, I don't think you missed anything.
What I meant was (and I probably wasn't to clear about) is that at ten weeks old I've likely had the pup with me for 2 or 3 weeks already. And at ten weeks would still be exploring on his 'own'. Well, on his own so to speak.

PS.
Yeah yeah, I could use another dog.
Now then, keep a wife or keep another dog?
Why is this a hard decision???
I just want to go back and readdress what Alex said.
I would be VERY uncomfortable taking my puppy to a shelter to socialize with other pups that are from unknown backgrounds and medical status. Maybe because I don’t vaccinate, maybe because I am anal, but shelters, vet clinics and boarding facilities are the three places I will NOT take a young pup. The concentration of bugs of all types (internal, external, viral and bacterial) is a hot bed for infection.
I feel comfortable with my boy playing with the puppies that I know the health status on and in an area where hundreds of unknown dogs have played before. Luckily we happen to have three puppies at the club right now that are all 10 weeks.
Alex is right that pups need to be comfortable with other dogs, I would just choose to do so in a different manner.
Again, just my two cents…
I understand, but I just wanted to clarify, these were not sickly, unknown shelter dogs that were in the class. I would never recommend socializing with strange older dogs, or a dog park. These were individual's pups from 10-16 weeks, and had to show proof of vaccines (I know, for whatever that's worth). It was in a sterile enviornment (or at least as sterile as the local park or an "area where hundreds of unknown dogs have played before"?)
Anyway, socialization for pups is necessary and will always be a scary issue because of possibly catching an infection. But I think it's a risk you have to take to socialize your puppy. I felt very comfortable taking my pup there, and think it was a good payoff. JMO.

I am glad.
I think it always comes down to what is most comfortable to you and your situation. You make the best decisions based on what your knowledge and opinions are.
With all Brandi has turned out to be for you, sounds like you made the best decision for you guys.

My Boxers (yes, I used to be a Boxer person) had a "dog friend".
A very sweet Golden.
They played together for years without incident.
The only problem that ever arose from it, was the few times the male Boxer decided to practice his Houdini act, and escape from the yard.
He always ended up at the Golden's house, up the road.
Thank G-d, he was neutered, and we were living in a gated neighborhood with virtually no traffic.
In hindsight, I would have done many things differently.
