about a month and a half ago my cairn mix was licking his paws quite excessively. By that I mean when we would go to bed I could hear him licking for 15 mins straight. I contributed this to the purina pro plan I was feeding him. I read that bad food could cause allergies. I changed to wellness. He doesn't do the night time licking anymore, though he still licks... but i think that's just normal dog behavior, right?
anyhow... over a month later the paws still look pink. Are his paws ok or should I seek vet help?
Food *can* cause allergies, and I commend you on your switch to a healthier food.
If the dog seems to be licking his feet excessively, it could be other causes. Environmental allergies are very common, and could cause itchy feet.
Other things could cause a dog to lick and chew at their feet as well.
Honestly, the only way to be sure is to ask a vet. Since the dog is a mixed breed, no one can know what his feet "should" look like.
Does the dog seem in distress? Does he only seem to lick his feet at certain times? Some dogs develop habits, like licking or chewing, that are unrelated to any real itch.
