Me, Luc and Teagan went away this weekend day hiking with my mom.
I am a member/supporter of Friends of Killarney Park (a volunteer organization that supports Killarney Provincial Park in a variety of ways - working on trails, clean-ups, portages, campsites, guides, etc etc). This weekend was the Friends winter activity day so we went up to take part in the festivities and to do some day hiking. I couldn't convince my mom to winter camp so we stayed in an inn not to far from the main access point of the park (the park is mostly wilderness). Unfortunately, it meant only 2 dogs could go, so Neb stayed home
We were on our own hiking so I was able to actually let Teags have some free time, and muzzle-free time. I obviously kept her on leash (and muzzled) near the trail heads, but at the further points she was able to explore like a regular dog which was really great. Both of them had a great time.
Beautiful photos! It looks like you had a great time. Our weekend here in Virginia (near Williamsburg) has been a bit different... although last weekend brought us temps around 12 degrees and our FIRST real snowfall of the season (I can just hear all you northerners groaning) today hit 85 degrees!! ARGHH!!!
As much as I hate the heat of the summer, having a day in the 80's during the first week of March does NOT make me a happy camper! It didn't impress Falcon either - his energy level was way down during play time. We have a small (very small) man made pond on our property we call Frog Pond because it is where all the frogs congregate to make "amphibian whoopie", so I took Falcon down and let him swim and romp in the water. He had a blast and I can now see it is going to be very difficult to keep him OUT of the pond.
Enjoy the snow as long as you can... it will get hot all too soon!
What a great trip Jennifer - it looks like dogs AND people had a marvelous time! The photos reminded me of many early spring hikes I've taken in VT, still a winter wonderland, but there's a fresh, soggy smell as the ground is preparing to wake up and suck in all that snow melt... ahh, good times.
Teagan looks SO happy too, she's incredibly lucky to have found such a great home with you.
Barbara, you're killing me - though, that kind of fluctuation and early heat would be a bit much
Lynne, I think Teags is doing fairly well with her HD - she's lost 17lbs in the 16 months I've had her, and I'd built her up to be able to run 11k. But, in our check up last weekend, she got diagnosed with an old cruciate tear (way before I had her) in one of her back knees and arthritis in both of them, so we are going to be running way less and not on pavement. Overall though, I'd say she's doing well.
Natalya, she also just gets so excited! A TRIP! My mom and I both slept poorly Friday night because she kept mumbling to herself and doing these little whines - it was totally her 'oh boy oh boy oh boy I'm so excited!' voice.
Edit: Barbara, I was just looking at your sig pic of Falcon, and then at mine w/Teagan - and I realized, she has a white muzzle! Whoa!!! I am all shocked for some reason even though as far as I know she's 7 years old....

It does creep up on us, doesn't it?? (Both human and canine! )
