Apathy isn't really anything new in this country.
Note the percentage of voters per capita versa any other voting country of the world. Pick any year for the last 100, or more if you like.
Yeah, apathy remains a problem.
Dunno... s'long as I don't have to fight alongside anyone who had the nasty attitude of this one chic I went to AIT with...
I damned near got Article 15'd before I was ever even officially in the Army. She made a derogatory comment re: Vietnam Veterans, after looking at a picture of several friends from the Vietnam Vets M/C. I almost broke her jaw.
My saving grace was the fact that she was dumb enough to admit to the Drill Sergeant what she had said.
I got real good with a buffer, but I kept my meager PFC and all the associated pay.
So yeah, mandatory service? Sure. As long as it ain't mandatory MILITARY service. I don't wanna hear it.
So you see the threat as substantially different today then at any other time in our country's history?
Where/what is this enemy?
Randy
Randy,
Can you tell me any other time in our country's history when:
The government required that banks provide loans to individuals with no proof of citizenship or proof of income
40% of babies born were to unwed mothers
We were dealing with this number of illegal aliens
Terrorism was as much of a threat
Our president wanted the power to be able to seize non-banking firms
China proposed to dump the dollar and go to a world currency
Our dollar was this close to collapsing (with all the above going on at the same time)
The government was bailing out, propping up, taking over financial and insurance institutions
The government was printing trillions of dollars to purchase our own "toxic assets"
It wouldn't be hard to come up with more examples of why I think we are living in unique, unprecedented times. I see many of these as a real and present threat to our country. Do you agree? If not, why?
Your issue with the 'other' though does beg the question, if she had such a low opinion of soldiers, why did she enlist?
Randy
It was before Iraq. She figured she'd never get deployed, in the National Guard.
Mommy and Daddy cut off the money, and she was desperate.
Last I checked, she'd been kicked out for refusing to deploy.
Just thinking about her makes me sick beyond belief.
