Anna, I started feeding Neb 2X a day at 6 months, but he is a lot smaller than a GSD (now 30lbs at 11 months) so I don't know if that translates or not.
At around 9 months I moved him to 1X/day. I feed all of mine, including the GSDs, 1X/day. Bloat is a concern for me but with exercising I am very concerned about feeding before or after workouts and bloat so this scheduling just seems to work best for us.
Edit: And I also transitioned by doing training (with yummy treats) in the time period his previous meal had been, so he still got something at that time. Now we are more erratic about training time - morning and evening, but not so scheduled. But I thought it was helpful to transition to a different feeding schedule.

Thanks...what does deep chested dogs have to do with feeding? Not sure what that means, I have heard this alot. I want to start feeding her 2 times a day but I also want to make sure she is getting everything she needs as a growing pup, she weights 45 lbs and is 5 months old today.
Dogs with deep/big chests and smaller tucked in waists are more prone to bloat. So it is more important to space out their meals and separate them from exercise time.
5 months should be fine to switch her to twice a day feeding. just watch her weight and if she looks to thin you can add another feeding back in.
