I need some help... I have a 1 year old Sheltie who is the most wonderful dog I have ever owned, but he has a tendancy to howl in his crate when I leave for work. This is not a problem right now because my husband and I live in a house, but I am planning on moving to an apartment within the next 6 months for a job. What would be the best way to train him not to howl?? I do not trust him enough to leave him out plus we have a security system. I'm not sure if he continues to howl after I leave. I don't think he does, but the 15 minutes to 1/2 hour of howling will just not work. What would be the best way of training him??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Get on of the Tri Tronic No Bark collars that I sell. They are the best quality on the market and this will stop the dog on the very first day you put it on. You can read about these on my web site - look under training equiopment.
Auster (GSD) used to hate her crate until I got a bigger one. She had the 42"L x 28"W x 32"H size one and I bought the 48"L x 30"W x 35"H one for her. I had no idea it would make sure a huge difference, but having enough room to sleep stretched out on her side made the difference. It was under $100 mailorder for the better buy line crate and it works well for us because it is lighter and Auster doesn't abuse it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> . Giving her a little something to chew on (a pig ear only lasts 30 minutes for her) helped as well because all she could think of was the goodie. Leaving a dog unattended with an edible chew can be a bad idea, though. Maybe put peanut butter inside a kong?
I'm just a pet owner and this is what has worked for me.
