Noel,
Did the second trainer mention that the dog seemed to have a lack of drive or enthusiasm? If so I can understand his thoughts on no aggravating bite work at home for awhile. Dogs get can get bored doing the same old same old exercises day in and day out. So varying the work from day to day keeps it all interesting for the dog, ie. this morning we work on positions, this afternoon maybe heels, tomorrow morning perhaps we'll play with the retrieves, etc etc. But it's all done every time in drive Noel, some people use food, my dog as well as others here turns on the dog with a tug. But it's all done in drive, I guess that's where I part company with the second opinion you recieved.
I can't imagine, don't put my dog in drive at home. It's almost worth a laugh.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.
Randy
He told me not to put the dog into drive at home before he worked my dog. After he worked him he said he has got plenty of drive, but we needed to specifically develop his grip. Which I don't expect my 8 mon. old pup to have a great grip right now anyway. By not working him on a backtie at home or doing any prey drive work at home. I won't foster any bad grip habits through my own mistakes, and when we do bite work his drive will be higher in that he only gets to bite twice a week. As far as OB goes, he said do some with food which will work with my dog but no ball. Later on he said we could do some things at home. But he specifically said no drive at home.
