Cliffs Notes: My puppy's becoming quite the confident little guy, pics at bottom.
----
I was out in the front yard with my pup this morning, pottying, being a dog, that sort of thing. All of sudden he alerted and let out a deep bark towards the back of the house and side the driveway's on. Thinking out-loud I said, "what are you barking at?". He barked again and got full hackles fore and aft. So I looked around the corner of the house to see my wife bent down and half hidden by a tree, working on her new tomato and strawberry plants. Duke barked again and pulled forward on the leash. Big dog behavior out of a pup that's not quite six months yet. He barked and growled a few more times, while pulling pretty intently, until we got over there. I stopped about a two feet short, just to be on the safe side, and my wife, "hey, I live here bub" then put her hand in front of his face. He was like, "oh... I'm sorry" and turned to mush.
He's still really young, but I was pretty impressed by this reaction to an unknown stimulus. He wasn't showing any amount of fear, or mindless aggression, and I remained completely neutral to the situation. He's started showing signs of territoriality about a week ago, with the foot kicking on the grass thing. I'm guessing this confidence is an effect of our tug sessions in the front yard, which he always wins. It made both of us pretty happy.
