Our newest litter now just over 4 weeks old- the littlest one is a male- and he is a tiny guy-and struggled a bit but has stayed strong and feisty. Here is the thing though- he justs acts sort of odd- he will bark and circle backwards mainly when he wants his mama so he can nurse, but he will fall from side to side hind end only, bumps into things, and just doesn't seem too interested in playing with his litter mates. He did actually seem to play a bit yesterday- I am just wondering if maybe he is blind or partially blind. Other times he seems to know exactly where he is going-especially when it comes to feeding-but I don't quite understand why he seems so unbalanced. His ears have always stood straight up too- I have never seen that either? Anyone else have any thoughts?
At 4 weeks he should be able to walk. Can he walk straight or does he always circle? Does he react when something is held out to him in front of his face (such as try to sniff it, etc)? Follow an object that is moved from side to side (his head should turn back and forth). Aside from bumping into things, can he climb things such as a small ramp or a stuffed animal?
GSD- he can certainly walk- he started walking right along with the rest of the litter- it seems to be more when he is excited about either eating or find a spot to potty that he does this. He does sniff and always comes right to me I just wasn't sure if that was just because he could smell me knowing I may be there to feed him(I have supplemented him with bottle feeding to ensure he was getting enough to eat as he hadsome trouble gaining weight at first)
He does climb overthings too but doesn't react much to anything other than a person or food in front of him- I have tried waving things on the side of his head but no reactions-maybe he is just ignoring me I do wonder about him falling at his hind end on either side though- he is the only pup that has not climbed out of the whelping box yet,but he is much smaller than the others so I cannot really go by that.
