Milt, I'm going to find out when is the next class and take in my own seat, along with some popcorn and a soda. It's better than the movies! It has suspense, comedy and sometimes some action!
I was at Petsmart purchasing a prong collar for my mutt one day, and the cashier "helpfully" pointed out that they sell head collars. I politely informed her that I already own one.

we had this girl who worked at Petsmart, who later became one of their "trainers", tell us "you should never put a collar or lead on a puppy until it's 5-8mos old." Then later on, when purchasing a prong for our older bitch, she told us "those are inhumane and will only instill fear in the dog and should never be used" and recommended one of their other "PC" collars. But then again, she's probably never seen a REAL German Shepherd
My hope is that anyone who really loves dogs will make the efforts to continue to learn, and never get stuck in one way of thinking. We all have to start somewhere, we're all beginners at something. None of us knows everything. With that in mind, maybe this person will learn with experience.....
When it comes to folks who think the head collar is the end all and be all of dog training, just tell them that head collars can lead to repetitive motion injuries, and when used on dogs with low confidence, can cause the dog to shut down. What really irks me is when I see people using a head collar with a flexi lead, and they seem to think they're being humane!!!!
I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they just don't KNOW any better.
While I won't be throwing out my head collars, they certainly are not the only tool in my toolbox.
If the world thought the way JParker did it would be a MUCH better place to live in! Too many people think they know everything there is to know about everything. I sure wish I knew everything
I was at the dog park the other night and a guy was there with a half pit and half something else. Well, he was bragging to everyone how his dog just "graduated" petsmart training. The funny thing is that dog jumped on me several times. (not wanting to knee someone elses dog) I let him persist and the owner kept whispering "stop that boy, stop that" . Not only that but the guy was trying to demonstrate his dogs "talent" and everyone just kind of looked at each other as if to say "that dog has been through training"??..LOL
